Alonso excited by McLaren potential
After both McLaren's finished in the points for the first time in Hungary, Fernando Alonso expects the team to go from strength to strength.
Fernando Alonso believes there is plenty more to come from McLaren after their best finish of the Formula One™ season in Hungary.
The Spaniard was fifth at the Hungaroring to claim 10 points for his team, and move them closer to Sauber in the constructors' championship.
Team-mate Jenson Button also finished in the points in the 10th race of the year, giving hope to both drivers after a disappointing first half of the season that has seen 11 retirements – including Kevin Magnussen's failure at the Australian Grand Prix.
Despite their problems Alonso has praised McLaren and hopes to make further strides at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa later this month.
"We're still not where we want to be, but the result in Hungary shows that we're headed in the right direction," he told the team's official website.
"To be able to take on and race the other cars felt great, and, while the result was largely achieved through attrition, we showed throughout that we had to pace to fight for the points.
"This car has been beautifully balanced all season, and was just something I could really push all the way through the race.
"I'm really looking forward to the second half of the season, I think we'll see more progress."
