Arsenal star Mesut Ozil hits back at criticism of Manchester United's Bastian Schweinsteiger

Midfielder says Germany teammate has faced unfair criticism of his fitness and quality since arriving in England, but would prove his doubters wrong

Patience: Mesut Ozil said fans needed to give Bastian Schweinsteiger time to adapt to English football
Mesut Ozil has backed his international teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger to "make the difference" at Manchester United.

The Arsenal star said Schweinsteiger had faced unfair criticism regarding his fitness and quality since arriving in England, but that the former Bayern Munich man would prove his doubters wrong.

"The drastic interim judgement in [the] English press is not fair towards him," said Ozil. "He certainly needs some time to adjust to Premier League. Just allow him a bit of time."

The pair were both key men in Germany's World Cup success in 2014 - and Ozil believes Schweinsteiger has nothing left to prove after his performances in Brazil.
