Murray, Djokovic tee up Montreal final showdown
Novak Djokovic will look to make it nine straight wins over Andy Murray, when the pair meet in the Rogers Cup final on Sunday.
Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray breezed into the Rogers Cup final, seeing off Jeremy Chardy and Kei Nishikori respectively in Montreal.
Chardy, playing in his first Masters-level semi-final, showed early nerves on serve, and the world number one did not miss the chance to capitalise on his way to a 6-4 6-4 victory.
Of minor concern to Djokovic's fans was treatment to his forearm early in the second set, but the 28-year-old shook off the niggle to advance in one hour, 20 minutes.
The Serbian improved to a 10-0 head-to-head record against Frenchman Chardy, who has never taken a set off the nine-time major champion.
Djokovic has won 30 straight matches in ATP 1000 events - losing only nine sets in that run - dating back to the Shanghai Masters in October.
Later on, Murray then made light work of world number four Nishikori 6-3 6-0 - a result which ensures he will climb to number two in the world, usurping Roger Federer.
The first set was closer than the scoreboard suggested, with the Japanese star hitting nine forehand winners - but left to lament poor second-serve statistics, winning just three of 16 points after missing his first ball.
Nishikori then capitulated in the second, winning just six points - and only one on return - as Murray won it in 20 minutes to get another chance against Djokovic.
The Briton's most recent win over Djokovic came in the 2013 Wimbledon final.
