Roberto Soldado's difficult spell at Tottenham has come to an end after he completed a move to Villarreal on Friday.

Villarreal have announced the signing of Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado on a three-year deal.

The Spain striker's switch to El Madrigal ends a miserable spell at White Hart Lane for the 30-year-old, who managed just seven goals in 52 Premier League appearances.

With emergence of Harry Kane, Soldado began to find his first-team opportunities limited under Mauricio Pochettino, but he will have fond memories of La Liga, where he was prolific for Getafe and Valencia.

Having passed his medical and signed a contract until 2018, Soldado said farewell to England with a message of thanks to Tottenham on his Twitter account.

He posted: "Back to La Liga! These two years have been difficult for me, but I wouldn't change this experience for nothing in the world.

"I am sorry for not being able to meet the expectations that Tottenham had put on me. I felt at home from the first day.

"I can only give many thanks to Tottenham for allowing me to represent the best club in England."
