Nadal to make Spain Davis Cup return

Rafael Nadal is to play for Spain in the Davis Cup for the first time in two years when they face Denmark in a Group One fixture.

World number eight Nadal has struggled for fitness and form of late, but is part of a strong Spain squad selected by captain Conchita Martinez with David Ferrer, Roberto Bautista-Agut, Fernando Verdasco and David Marrero in the squad.

Nadal, looking to rebound from a third-round exit at the US Open, last featured for Spain against Ukraine in the 2013 World Group play-off.

Ferrer is also ending a long exile from the Davis Cup team, his last appearance coming in the 2012 final against Czech Republic.

"We have a great team," Martinez said ahead of the tie in Odense. "It is always dangerous to play outside of Spain where conditions are obviously going to favour the home team."

Spain need a win to ensure they do not face a relegation play-off.
